Talomir Tales: Distant Shores Review

I think I've played enough games of Talomir Tales: Distant Shores to write a review. Most games I played I didn't record on my blog.

Talomir Tales: Snotz the Goblin

Once upon a time there was a goblin named Snotz. He was an eager little fellow and wanted to make a name for himself. He strolled into a run down tavern looking for work one day.
"Tender! You got any work, eh pig face?"

"Hmmm, wot?" The bartender peered down at the little goblin. "Oh, yer can look on dat board over yonder. Any ub dem jobs is on dere." He drooled as he munched a piece of mutton.

Two Hour Wargames Swordplay 2015: A quick review and battle report

Swordplay 2015 is a FREE set of introductory fantasy/ancient non-gunpowder era skirmish rules by Two Hour Wargames. If you've never heard of THW, I'd advise you to check out their website and get the scoop there as this is just my review and not an overview of all the rules. I will touch upon some, however, particularly my favorites.

Swordplay is offered in both PDF format for free and printed version for $5 plus S&H. So you've got no reason not to pick them up and check them out! This is a complete gaming system, not just a teaser. There's also a set of gunpowder/modern/sci-fi rules (Chain Reaction 2015, see above link) as well that is worth checking out and guess what? It's also free in PDF form!

So if you're interested in learning more of how I feel about the game, please read on! (Battle report is after the review if you want to skip on down there.)

Sunday Dungeon Crawl Madness!!!! (Battle report)

This Sunday I was home alone, so decided to do a little solo dungeon crawling. The rules I used were Song of Blades and Heroes and its expansions as well as the fan-made expansion Deep Dark Dungeons. I'd advise you to check out both!

Our brave adventurers from left to right: Drakus, Tristin, Snibly, and Gilna.

On the Dwarven Forge bandwagon!

So over the past year I've been looking for a nice 3D dungeon and I've tried various types. First I tried Hirst Arts and while awesome, it was a bit too time consuming for me and I was looking for something more durable, what with kids being planned in the near future. If a kid drops a cast dungeon piece, it's done for!

Then I tried out Fat Dragon Games E-Z Dungeons. Again, they were pretty cool and I love Fat Dragon's stuff but the dungeon just didn't do it for me. The dungeon dressing stuff though is really nice and I use it in my games currently!

Then I remembered Dwarven Forge had a kickstarter a year or two back so I decided to check them out again. I was always reluctant for some reason to buy them. Mostly because I thought they were pretty spendy. Reservations aside, I decided to blow part of my tax return on six basic sets and a stair set!! Best decision I've made in a hell of a long time.
Stuffed to the brim!

Just me, my dice, and a solo pen and paper session...

So tonight, I decided to try something a bit different. About a year ago I came across a small community of RPG players that enjoy all manner of solitaire pen and paper games.I always wanted to give it a go myself but it seemed every time I did, I was unsuccessful but this time, I decided I'd give it a good try and I'm pretty happy with the results, if they are a bit rough. I had fun, that's all that matters! If you're interested, then read on, if not, scroll on by. :)

The thief and the necromancer...

Sneaky thief makes his approach...from behind...
A couple more painted minis. The necro is particularly well sculpted and came out great in Bones form. I might have to paint up another one. He kind of reminds me of Allanon from the first Shanara trilogy, if you've ever read them you'd know what I mean. ;)

Project Talisman!

My girlfriend and I have started playing the current edition of Talisman and she mentioned that she'd like to see painted miniatures roaming the regions! What more encouragement does one need? :) Currently I have all but one of the expansion sets, so I'm looking at a ton of painting ahead of me on very small scale minis (I'd say 20 mm scale?). With this in mind, I think my plan of attack will be to paint a base coat and a highlight, black/brown lining, eyes may or may not be added depending on the mini, and the base will just be a plain black. I think the rocks and stuff on a base would just get knocked off eventually anyhow, so no problem. The mold lines are pretty irritating, so I won't spend a whole lot of time on them but hopefully nothing too noticeable will be left unless it endangers the miniature!

Here's the first batch primed and ready for painting!

I picked out the ones with a lot of similarities. These guys have either a lot of steel and/or red, so it will speed up painting not having to mix a lot of paint for red. Basically an armor style painting of five or six at a time...I'll admit though, I really can't wait to paint and be the Leprechaun!

We played a game last night and a funny thing happened. Her pack mule got turned into a weremule and attacked her! I thought that was pretty funny, maybe it's just me. We never did finish the game due to time constraints but it was a lot of fun. You should definitely check it out if you haven't already.

 Game on!
