Current projects and painting area...

So the aforementioned unicorn painting with the wife will have to resume later this week as she works late. Anyhow, I thought I'd show you what my messy painting area looks like! Currently working on the set of six Ral Partha minis that come with the Dragon Quest board game. Two are mostly done just need to work on the bases, which I'll do all six in one go.

If you've ever played Ultima Online, you'll see the caster in the front row is based off of a Game Master from that game. :)

Painting unicorns, with a special guest...My wife! :)

My wife always said she'd never put paint to brush and apply it to miniatures yet here we are, painting unicorns side by side...It could be the beginning of a beautiful thing! ;) Will have another update showing the finished products!

Also, I wanted to show off my coffee mug...How cool is that?! Wal-Mart photo center for the win. :)

Treasure Awaits!...Unless you're Gresh the Not So Mighty...

http://www.pigames.net/store/default.php?cPath=101
I recently purchased both of the soft cover books for Treasure Awaits! and More Treasure Awaits! by Precis Intermedia. It's an old school dungeon crawler game with modern easy to understand rules. It's marketed as an introductory RPG game but it's certainly not watered down from what I've seen. This is by no means a review, just a preview of what I've been doing lately aside from painting.

Reaper Bones Hellborn Troll or Frost Troll

Sometimes you just need to paint brightly colored trolls and this was one such case! I'm not sure what it is but I like painting wildly colored trolls. I have three other trolls painted up, Blue, Purple, and Green...Now we can add Orange! Eventually I want to paint up another one of these sculpts as an ice troll, as the actual Reaper Bones model suggests it is...Although the metal one is actually a Hellborn troll. Whatever! Regardless, I love the sculpt and he didn't turn out too bad. :)
Me smash face wit' rock!

Originally the entire back was black but my wife pointed out to me that there should be an orange patch...I knew I married her for a reason! ;)

The first of the Bones 2 minis painted! Chaos Warrior and Mushroom Men!

I had a busy weekend but still managed to paint up seven figures...That's plain amazing for me! Really excited about a lot of these new Bones 2 sculpts. The first guy I knew I had to paint was the Hellknight Order of the Nail...

I always loved the old GW Chaos Knights and their wild color schemes, so this is paying homage to them!

Rurik the Blessed: Mage Knight Dungeons repaint!

Here's another Mage Knight repaint, this time Rurik the Blessed from Mage Knight Dungeons. I thought he was a particularly interesting figure because he reminds me of something you'd see on the cover of an old D&D book or some old fantasy art. I think he's pretty cool, if a bit simple but therein lies his charm...To me at least. He's also an elf, which I thought was kind of unique.
Side by side comparison...

On the Dwarven Forge bandwagon!

So over the past year I've been looking for a nice 3D dungeon and I've tried various types. First I tried Hirst Arts and while awesome, it was a bit too time consuming for me and I was looking for something more durable, what with kids being planned in the near future. If a kid drops a cast dungeon piece, it's done for!

Then I tried out Fat Dragon Games E-Z Dungeons. Again, they were pretty cool and I love Fat Dragon's stuff but the dungeon just didn't do it for me. The dungeon dressing stuff though is really nice and I use it in my games currently!

Then I remembered Dwarven Forge had a kickstarter a year or two back so I decided to check them out again. I was always reluctant for some reason to buy them. Mostly because I thought they were pretty spendy. Reservations aside, I decided to blow part of my tax return on six basic sets and a stair set!! Best decision I've made in a hell of a long time.
Stuffed to the brim!

Dungeon Command repaint and Mage Knight repaint

I recently bought the entire collection of Dungeon Command sets because I liked the miniatures and, well....I couldn't just buy a couple sets, which I blame on my collector OCD!!! I have to say, I'm very impressed with them. I missed out on a ton of the D&D pre-painted minis over the years but at least I got these guys, right? I did buy them thinking I'd primarily repaint them all eventually. While a lot of them are great pre-paints already, including the Orc faction and the Undead faction, the others were lacking mostly. On a whim, I decided to paint up the Ogre from the Orc faction. He's not bad to look at straight of the box but I wanted to give him a lit more oomph, so here he is!
He turned out real well considering the short time it took to paint him. Honestly, he kind of reminds me of one of my cousins!
Gotta love the back. I can just smell the sweat and BO!

Next up, I decided a quick repaint of a Mage Knight Rebellion figure, the Werebear! Mage Knight miniatures are on the other side of the spectrum as far as pre-painted miniatures go. They're pretty bad paint jobs but hey, better than a grey or metal figure on the table, right? This particular guy, I plan to use for general gaming, so I tore him from his "click base."
Rawr! Beware of the 12-pack wielding werebear!
Kind of an awkward right paw but I guess he's swiping.

I've got tons more Mage Knight guys, mostly Mage Knight Dungeon, which is a game I love. Probably my favorite dungeon crawler. I have tons of doubles and triples that I'll probably get around to repainting for general games. Some pretty rad sculpts in the Mage Knight line...They just need some painting love!

Pendraken 10mm Undead (and some goblins)!

I was tired of green goblins!

Mummies and a couple ghosts.

Various reaper types.

Cavalry and a commander.

Characters: Lich, Necromancer, Standard, and Edward the Vampire.

BRAAAAINS!

Various foot soldiers and a leader that needs rebased!
