Twisted Dungeons a Four Against Darkness Supplement Review (Spoiler Free)

If you're like me, you like variety. Who doesn't? This is exactly what Twisted Dungeons adds. It does not necessarily give you a new mission other than slaying the final boss but it could. Maybe a town has hired your dungeon delvers to retrieve an item in a nearby dungeon. Your mage had a little too much booze at the local inn. That frozen dungeon looks a bit slippery, watch your step! You step into an old wizard's tower, what magical stuff could this hold? You keep looking for the final boss but he's no where to be found, maybe you can find some clues.

The book is 37 pages long with 1 page of how to use the book and 2 pages of tables at the back (which I haven't needed yet). The rest of the book consists of 64 possible missions, complications, themes, etc. I think I've gotten enough use out of this book to do a review justice (probably 12 or more rolls).

Even though I have many books in the 4AD series, I'm always on the look out for something that doesn't add too much to the game but enough to keep my interests. Something that's easy to deploy and take down while watching my little minion (he upgraded from vermin when he turned 5). All you need is the core rule book and Twisted Dungeons. Of course, you can use as many or as little supplements as you want.

Sometimes you might get lucky and get a special reward at the end of the quest (assuming you finish, I have failed multiple missions!). It might be extra experience rolls, gold, treasure, and even unique items only found in this book. I haven't been so lucky to find the latter but, I'm not going to give up!

There are "unique" quests that you can only roll once in a campaign. Sadly, I haven't gotten any of these either but what riches do they hold? I don't know, as I don't read ahead for spoilers!

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. If someone asks on the FaceBook group what book a beginner might pick up, this is always at the top of the list for me.

  1. thanks for the review! A plea to anyone wanting to review my books -- if you review them on Amazon (or just copy and paste your review on Amazon) and the book gets 25 reviews, Amazon will place it in its list of advertised content which goes to their emails which reach millions of users. It can increase dramatically the sales numbers-- which ultimately makes the book profitable and makes sure more content like that will be published. Thanks!
