Shen Rep 5 AC 2 Thief Star (Smooth, Clumsy)

Last night's log started off Shen's adventuring career and ended with him accepting a job to escort a merchant. Escorts are tough business but, I feel confident that Shen can overcome it and gain some coin. Maybe he'll even meet some allies, who knows? We will see! I forgot to mention that Shen is in the nation of Capalan League.

The escort is taking place during the day. The escorted NPC is a rep 4 ac 2 merchant with the attribute light weight. Hopefully he doesn't get himself killed. His name is Mimir. Why was he being escorted? Let us consult the all mighty...GameMaster's Assistant fantasy deck! I drew three different cards and use the adventure generator words and get isolate, religious, and food. That's easy! He's going to another location to sell wafers to the priests as his current town had too much competition. I also use the cards for names, pretty slick. 😸

Shen waited outside the marketplace for the merchant named Murmur, or was it Mimir? It didn't matter, once the job was over, he'd be a distant memory to the thief and he'd be so much the richer. The merchant strode up to Shen, ready to go. He had on a huge backpack and the thief was amazed at the other man's strength. On further investigation though, Shen saw that it was filled with wafers. Holy wafers, a light burden, indeed. The two set off from the small town in the morning sunlight.

In the escort encounter, I resolve one PEF. I choose 1-3 Capalan League, 4-5 Goblins, and 6 Trolls. Please, don't let it be trolls! And I rolled a 1, whew! Three Capalan League, a female and two males all rep 3, ac 2 soldiers. Where does the meeting take place? I'll let the cards decide. I drew "a spirits domain." Sounds like some type of sacred area so I'll go with that.

They had traveled many miles and the sun was starting to go down as they approached the crest of a hill. Not far now was their destination but beyond lie a graveyard. They hurried through as cemeteries gave Shen the creeps. He'd heard stories about the dead rising again and it was getting close to dark. He didn't want to be caught in the graveyard at night.

Soon after, there came voices not far off. It was not quite audible and Mimir kept real close to the now tense thief. The voices were coming from the way they were headed and before long they were able to make out three people, living people thank goodness. Shen approached them with a greeting. The two men and a woman turned their attention to the newcomers.

All right, time for Shen to work his magic and recruit someone. I randomly drew lots and one of the men was the leader. I rolled up the attribute smooth. Ah, another charismatic fellow. Let's see who is better. I rolled 6, 2, and 6 with my smooth ability. Hardly smooth at all! The NPC fared even worse with three 6's. Maybe they both had the jitters from being in the graveyard and weren't as smooth as they thought they were? The smooth-off did give Shen one increasing rep d6 (IRD).

Irregardless, I wanted to further interact with them. Shen was smooth enough, so didn't go for the leader. So decided on the male first. I rolled up his attribute as hard as nails. A stout fellow, nice! Would make a nice meat shield. He eagerly agreed to accompany Shen. I did roll for an attribute for the female but she got a 6, no attribute.

After a bit of a chat, the two groups parted ways but not before Shen recruited one of them to his ranks. He was a barrel-chested man named Phineas. He had short dark hair and a beard. The man looked like a solid fighting man, although admittedly untested in battle. He was armed with a mean looking short sword.

As the three men arrived at Mimir's destination, Shen eagerly awaited his payment. The man, overladen with holy wafers, handed over a sack of gold. The thief grinned and bowed deeply, removing his plumed purple hat. Oh how the weight of the sack gladdened his heart.

So, that wasn't bad at all! Shen gained 5 IRD and no DRD (decreasing rep d6). I didn't think Phineas should get any of the loot as he just joined the group so rolled all the d6 for Shen. I rolled all lower than 6 so no increase in rep. Maybe next time.
