Adventure Log: Shen Month 2 (continued)

Rules Used

Rather than go looking for employment, I decided an Explore encounter would be a decent choice. I am using CrinkleChips' little explore creature table found here in the THW forums. It's a great little tool! Maybe we'll meet some new friends? Or enemies! Or NPCs that just ignore us, which is probably going to happen...Oh it will happen.

Our Heroes:

Shen Rep 5 AC 2 Thief Star (Smooth, Clumsy)

Phineas Rep 3 AC 2 Soldier Grunt (Hard as Nails)

The two, now friends, decided to explore outside of town and get some fresh air and, maybe, get some adventuring in. Phineas still wasn't tested much and Shen wanted to train him in the ways of surviving off the land. Times get hard, after all.

A roll of the dice tells me that I will encounter 4 PEFs, 3 of which must be resolved in order to succeed. The boys are still in Capalan League. I decided that 1-3 would be civilians, 4-5 would be Capalan League, and 6 would be Dwarves, if I encounter NPCs gathering food or an encampment. If I encounter bad guys, I would encounter 1-3 Terekens, 4-5 goblins, and 6 Mirholme...I figure I'd throw my guys a bone rather than them facing off against a troll or werewolf.

PEF 1: Rolled a 4, looking at the list I got NPCs returning from a raid with 1/2D6 captives. Just my luck! A dirty Tereken buccaneer with two captives! He immediately attacks. As I am not home, I'm using MS Paint to track my battles. I only use the highest tech tools. Our boys have the advantage.

Shen heard a noise and motioned for Phin to hault suddenly. In the distance, a Tereken was prodding two new slaves in front of him. The thief had very little morals but slavery was deplorable even in his book. They quickly set up an ambush.

He was just a little guy, a rep 3 ac 2 warrior, no attribute. As I said, I had the advantage. I passed more on the action table so would get the first strike. Phin and Shen charged in! After a short exchange of blows, Shen put him OOF. I looted the body and got 1 IRD. A good start!

Swiftly, Shen was on the slaver, catching him completely off guard. He was on the defensive the entire time and, with a wrap on the skull with the hilt of sword, the thief knocked him unconscious. Hopefully this young Tereken would learn better than to dabble in slave trading. With a bow and a tilt of his cap, he told the slaves they were free to go.

PEF 2: I rolled an 11 and see more NPCs returning from a raid. This time three Mirholmes:

Rep 6, AC 4 Knight (Light Weight, Swordsman)

Rep 4, AC 4 Warrior (Fanatic)

Rep 4, AC 2 Warrior (Fanatic)

+2 Captives

Now this one could be trouble. We got straight to the battle board and to the action table. I do not have the advantage but pass more on the action table so get my pick of the litter! I send Shen in to attack the AC 4 warrior and Phin on the AC 2 warrior. My strategy, try and drive off the Rep 6 knight on the Will to Fight table.

First, Shen's fight. After a few rounds of combat, the warrior goes OOF because his rep is reduced to 0. I was a little worried as Shen's rep would have been reduced to 1 but a quick check of the rules read this "After a figure has completed all of its melees for theturn of activation, any lost Rep is recovered." Phew! Would have been ugly if he only had 1 rep against a rep 6 knight.

Second, Phineas' fight. Phineas won the first round of combat handily, for a rep 3! Knocking his opponent OOF. My plan worked! I didn't even have to roll on the will to fight test as the best the knight could do was pass 2d6 and he'd still run away as 1 figure leaves the table. Let the looting commence! 1 IRD!

The two intrepid adventurers worked their way up a steep incline, lucky for them the three Mirholme captors did not see them. The soldier and thief instinctively launched an assault on them. With an intense flashing of blades and clanking of steel, the battle was over in seconds. Their leader didn't want the captives that bad and turned tail and ran.

PEF 3: I rolled a 6, food is available! Yeah, something that's not going to kill me. I roll on the gathering table and pass 1d6 initially and then 2d6 the roll after. Another IRD.

As the sun set on the beautiful scenery of the mountains and forest, Shen and Phineas discovered some wild strawberries, which they gladly gobbled down. After that, they set off back to town.

Ok, after the battle rolls! Shen ended up with 2 IRD and Phin with 1 IRD for fighting. I split four IRD amongst the two so Shen had 4 and Phin had 3 that they earned from the adventure itself. First I roll to see if Shen increases in rep, nope! Now for Phineas, he manages to increase to rep 4! Sweeeeeeeeet!
