Before we get started, I'd like to talk about a couple of things.
First off, intimidation. In our last adventure, I managed to intimidate three rep 6 and two rep 4 trolls off the battlefield before even engaging them in brutal combat. While it might seem like a powerful way of avoiding combat, it's actually a double-edged sword. You can avoid combat this way but you also miss out on a lot of IRD (increasing rep d6), not to mention magical items. Any doubles on a rep 6 creature/character is an automatic magic item (except double 6's!), unless they are civilians.
Do I think Shen and the gang could have taken out the trolls? I have my doubts for sure. I think it would have been a bloody fight and not all of my band would have made it out, if any at all. This is still only Shen's fourth month, remember. He doesn't have any magic items nor has he increased in rep but hopefully we can pick up a few in the dungeon and get that rep up. Also keep in mind, you don't adjust your rep until the end of the month and, as of now, Shen is in the hole as far as DRD (decreasing rep d6) is concerned.
Next topic, dungeons. This will be my first dungeon crawl in the Talomir Tales series. I've had it for years but wanted to wait until it happened naturally, now's my chance. The dungeon diving table is rolled on to generate the dungeon. You could track it on paper but you don't need to, just keep track of whether or not you went down a level as it will give you a bonus on dice rolls. You choose a white die and a colored die, white going down the left side of the dungeon diving table and the colored going across the top to see what you encounter. From nothing to barracks to the big bad himself. Let's see how it works!
First, I roll on the Tereken big bad table and get a 7, goblins. Nice, better than a huge scary demon, right? The big bad, minions, and low-lives will all be goblins. Personally, I like to roll on the tables rather than start with the leader and go down but in this case, I will use the leader as the big bad and then roll from the rest. I always like the random composition of groups I encounter. I think that's what makes Two Hour Wargames fun.
This will be a detailed run through of the dungeon, although I will just do an after the fight summary each encounter to save time.
Our Band:
Shen Rep 5 AC 2 Star Thief (smooth, clumsy)
Phineas Rep 4 AC 2 Grunt Soldier (Hard as Nails)
Ragnar Rep 4 AC 4 Grunt Healer (Agile) Red Sun
Evetta Rep 4 AC 2 Grunt Shooter Red Sun
DD (dungeon diving) 1: My first room is "continue on," which means the room is empty.
DD 2: Low life goblins. There are 4. For low lives we go to the fourth row on the goblin list. All four are rep 3 ac 2 shooters. Time to go to the battle board, as the Red Suns are ready to brawl with the Dark Moons! Right away Evetta went obviously dead! Shen used 2 star power and one extraordinary effort. Ragnar ran for it. Hopefully he returns.
DD 3: Low life goblins, x2. Easy fight.
DD 4: Down a level and a low life goblin, no problem.
DD 5: Two more low lives. Warrior and hearler, moppoed the floor with them.
DD 6: Party. Two Tereken men, both warriors. Interacted and gained 1 IRD.
DD 7: Store Room +1 caster low life, crushed it. Found 1 IRD in the store room.
DD 8: Minons x2 shooters.
DD 9: Double 6's, the big bad! Not only that but the treasure room also! She has the advantage and charges Phin. I always try and keep it random when NPC's are targetting (even my own grunts) as they are never sure who is the leader or who they're going to target. Just makes it more fun, in my opinion After both being reduced to rep 2, Phineas knocks the big bad out of the fight. Woot woot, we got loot! Unfortunately, it was just the "Eternal Father" statue, which is a +1d6 after the encounter single use item. A long way for a simple one use healing item.
After the Fight Recovery: Ragnar is the only one to run and he passed 2d6 on the after the encounter table so he returns to the band. Too bad about Evetta! Now, it's two explore encounters to get back.
Total IRD/DRD so far this month:
Shen 5 IRD, 9 DRD
Phineas 4 IRD, 1 DRD
Ragnar 0 IRD, 4 DRD
IRD Pool: 14 (This will be split equally among the group with excess points going to a random band member)
