Adventure Log: Shen Month 3

Rules Used
In the mail yesterday, I got the above gem. The third book in the Talomir Tales series, Caravanserai. It is, apparently, still available through Amazon as of this date. It might be gone soon as it is being replaced with Warrior Heroes Adventures in Talomir!

Anyhow, I picked these up as it updates the rules slightly, has the tabletop battles (if you want more of a wargame), expands the regions you can adventure in, and includes a city to explore, Brigana. The great thing about THW games is that you can just add whatever or take out what you don't want. So I'm going to add Brigana to Capalan League since Shen is already in that nation. Boom, Brigana now becomes "a city" (couldn't think of a name just yet!) in Capalan League.

There are six sections in a city: The Bazaar, The Docks, Public Area, Poor Area, Government Area, and the Wealthy area. You can enter each area once per month and resolve as many PEF's as you wish. You can take sections of the city away if you want a smaller town, for example: The city Shen is in only has four sections, The Bazaar, Docks, Public Area, and Poor area. I figure the Government area and the Wealthy area are in bigger cities. I'm still playing RAW (rules as written) but just downsizing.

Let's see what kind of trouble we can get into! But first, our heroes?

Shen Rep 5 AC 2 Thief Star (Smooth, Clumsy)

Phineas Rep 4 AC 2 Soldier Grunt (Hard as Nails)

First part of the month: Involuntary Encounter! Caravanserai does have rules for involuntary encounters and I got "Robbery!" It's happening during the daytime. There are three thieves all rep 4 ac 2. The leader has the attribute Clumsy. First both Shen and Phineas goes to the Robbery table. The robber passes 2d6 and Phineas passes 1d6 and surrenders. What! That leaves me in a bit of a pickle. Do I risk fighting three rep 4 thieves? No, I will just take the decreasing rep D6 and play it safe.

The rains beat down and the streets of the city were turned into a quagmire. "Oh, my new boots!" Shen complained to Phineas. The thief's luck would only get worse as they were accosted by three shadowy figures, "Hands up!" Phineas immediately dropped his weapon and surrendered. Shen look at his companion with a "really?" expression painted on his face but lowered his weapon too.

Jerks!
The robbers made quick work taking Phineas' small amount of coins and Shen's new boots. "...My new boots!" is all the thief could say, toes squishing in the mud.

Second Part of the Month: I think I will enter the Market (Bazaar) to see if they have some boots for poor Shen. Looks like I can resolve up to 4 PEF's. Each location has 2 or 3 separate 2d6 tables.

PEF 1: I get the middle table and roll a 9, a princess! Wonder what she's doing in a place like this? Her ranking in her father's eyes is 2. Not sure what that means but we shall see.

Time to interact; Shen only manages to pass 1d6 even with his smooth attribute. The princess passes 1d6 as well and the two exchange pleasantries.

PEF 2: Center table again and I roll 5, a temple dancing girl. Interesting. I figure this is an exotic dancer from a far off land. The table seems to be tied to a holy man from the temple. Shen passes 2d6 and the dancing girl 1d6. I have never met her before so she just makes eye contact and nothing else.

I think I will move over to another part of the town, to the poor area! This is where Shen makes his home. There are three PEFs. I might run into pretty shady people in the poor area but Shen is pretty shady himself. Hoping to regain those DRD's I lost!

PEF 1: Street Urchin. We tied on the interaction table and he's asking for a small gift or else I'll interact at -2 rep in future interactions. Bah, cheeky little bugger. I guess I will give him a small gift. He does seem pretty common on the lists so probably a safe bet. That's another DRD.

PEF 2: A female civilian. I passed more 1d6 more and it says exchange pleasantries and can further interact. On further interaction, I passed 1d6 more again. I then roll a further dice and see that she offers to take us to meet her family and have a home cooked meal. Gain 1 IRD. Sweet!

All right, that's it for now. Let's see how we did.

End of the month totals:

Shen: IRD 1, DRD 2. I rolled one decreasing D6 and got a 6, no change in rep.

Phineas: IRD 0, DRD 1. I rolled one decreasing D6 and got a 4, no change in rep.

I thought the city was fun. I will have to visit again some time! Sort of reminds me of Barbarian Prince. Next encounter will definitely be Carousing so I can see about getting more band members and/or a job.

Thanks for reading!

    1. I didn't order mine from Amazon so can't say what the binding is like. My copy of Caravanserai has a nice 360 degree binding. My Distant Shores has the old style binding, like a 311 degree binding, hehe. Ed does have a new printing services though so you might want to ask him.

I'll give you a quick run down on the Talomir Tales books:

Distant Shores: More fantasy races like orcs, goblins, vampire counts, etc. Think more D&D stuff. It does have a dungeon generator and magical items.

Road to Ekra: Is mostly about jousting rules and encounters in between. No monsters other than opponents you joust against. No dungeons or magical items.

Caravanserai: Has less fantasy races (no orcs, dwarves, goblins, elves, etc.) but there are still ogres, trolls, etc. but the main theme seems to be the race of men. It does have dungeons and magical items. It has the table top rules as well as trading, the city, etc.
