Tanan Saga: Market Day

Getting fed up with not being able to recruit members to his band, Tanan decided he would do something very unlike an elf. He would go to the nearest city of men. Elves, as you know, are very shy folk who prefer the woods and the company of animals over that of men. But, as his village didn't really contain anyone interested in adventures, he decided it was time to go into town.

Tanan knew that not far from his camp was a small city. He decided to look there. So he broke down his well disguised camp, rolled up his bedroll, and set off. It would be a short journey.

This will be a carousing encounter. I'm using my new Big Book of Fantasy Mats by Loke Battle Mats. These are perfect for Battle Boards! Look for a review of the Fantasy and Sci-Fi books soon! A nice addition to the Battle Boards from Two Hour Games.

As he topped a hill, he could see the city beneath. It was around noon and below, he could see a bustling city. Most of the people were at the markets. His keen eyesight could make out mostly men, a few dwarfs, and even an elf here and there, which surprised Tanan. He descended the hill and made his way to the marketplace.

The elf felt out of his element in the hustle and bustle of man. He looked around for anyone not selling wears. First, he attempted to strike up a conversation with a woman holding a bow. She dressed much differently than anyone else in the city. She was also an outsider from Capalan but she didn't seem amenable to being recruited.

Next,  he approached three people who were standing around chatting among themselves. Again, they all but ignored the elf and nodded him to go away. This was unbelievable!

On this encounter, I had to use my Extraordinary Effort dice to pass the interaction so I didn't get a decreasing rep D6. Turns out I got one anyways for using the Extraordinary Effort! Was the first time I used the EE so I was just glad I remembered.

Lastly, he approached another Tereken man who didn't show any interest in joining his adventures.

Sighing, he walked off flustered. A man wearing a brown robe walked along beside him for a moment then started some small talk. He asked the elf some questions about tracking and marksmanship. Satisfied with the answers, the man asked if he would guard him on his way to his holy temple. It turns out he was a healer. The elf agreed and they decided to head out the next morning.

Rolled on the robbery table and passed without being confronted.

Next encounter, wandering with the healer!
