Fento the Logical

I decide to go carousing for my first encounter; mostly looking for an adventure.  The day part I chose was during the day assuming that the less shady types would be out during the day. I rolled up 5 PEFs (possible enemy forces). I burn one PEF to see if there is an offer of employment. Success! It's a merchant and he wants to be escorted to an adjacent city. A noble enough job for a paladin! We agree to set out tomorrow.

"Ye got yerself a deal, mister."

Next I see if I can get some help. I approach the first PEF and resolve it as...Dwarfs! First I test to see if it's a healer or caster and it's not. There are three dwarfs to be exact, all Red Sun: A Leader rep 5 soldier and two rep 4 soldier dwarfs. I roll on the NPC interaction table. The dwarfs' leader gives the paladin one look and gives a surly grunt showing this table isn't interested in any employment (gain 1 decreasing D6!).

Instead of gold or other things that might make one rich, Talomir Tales uses a great system. You either get increasing rep D6 for things like successful adventures, killing enemies, having a successful interaction, etc. or you get decreasing rep D6 for things like using star power (a nice touch!), leaving the battle board, and such. I really like it, personally.

I decided that my ability "Logical" (-1D6 on the interaction table) was a distinct disadvantage and would try this one solo! It was rolled randomly and was just bad luck. Before I go, I must check for a chance of robbery. I pass 2D6 despite having my rep lowered by one for being alone.

As dawn breaks, I prepare for the escort adventure. Looks like ol' Hobos (rep 3, ac 2), as he is named, has brought along a pack horse (rep 2, ac 2). With my "Logical" trait, I may be in for trouble. I imagine "Logical" being more like one track mind "holier than thou" classic paladin.

"Tally ho boys! A fine day, isn't it?"

For this quest I will resolve one PEF as per the special instructions. I resolve it as one a female Mirholme knight with no random attribute but she does still have the Swordsman class attribute. She is rep 6 with an ac of 4 (gulp!). Let's hope she doesn't tear me and ol' Hobos a new one.

Now I roll on the interaction table...I decide that Hobos and his mule, Roy, will not attack but can defend themselves if charged. She will charge me first as I am the one waving the big sword in her face, if it comes to blows. We are both neutral so we each receive +1D6. She rolled 3 success and me, I rolled 1...Big surprise! Thankfully she wasn't of the opposite alignment as me. She says something snarky and lets us pass, unscathed except for another decreasing rep D6...Whew!

Well, we roll into town unharmed.

I may not have successfully dealt with dwarfs or the Mirholme knight but now it's time to get down to the focus of our little blog post, the escort adventure. Time for payment! I receive two increasing rep D6 for my troubles. Subtract that from my two decreasing D6 and I break even.

I never thought it would be so intense just interacting with characters. The Logical attribute really hamstrung me. If I had run into some werewolves or orcs, I would have been in some deep stuff. A little bead of sweat formed as I rolled on the "who are they" table...Just kidding!

Anyhow, hopefully I'll get some more games onto my table and recorded on the ol' blog. That's one of my New Year resolutions. ;)
