Tanan Saga: Troll Troubles

A young elf deftly crept through the forest, eyes and ears sharp for anything ahead. Tanan was his name, a scout from a nearby elven village in Tereken.

Tanan
Tanan is a rep 5 wood elf shooter with an AC of 2. He has the attributes slippery (race), hard as nails (random), and agile (class). He's aligned with Red Sun. The encounter is Wandering. I figured instead of a Carousing encounter, an elf would feel more natural recruiting on a wandering encounter so I chose 1-3 Tereken Men, 4-5 Elves, and 6 Trolls.

PEF1: A rep 5 troll. I gained the advantage and popped a shot at him forcing him to duck back. He passed his will to fight test at the end of Tanan's turn but failed after he recovered from duck back, double 6's!

Always alert, Tanan heard something crashing through the woods. "A troll, this close to the village!" he thought to himself. Tanan quickly fired his bow but the troll, missing in his haste. The troll reeled and sought cover. He couldn't see the elf yet and, flustered, he thought it best to retreat.

PEF2: A rep 5 Red Sun elf shooter. She greeted me kindly but as she wasn't lower rep, I couldn't recruit her. I gained one increasing D6.

The two elves noticed each other at once. "Hail, traveler" Tanan approached the other.

"Well met" she said in a soft voice. "Beware, there is a troll about."

"Indeed! I fired at him but it didn't make it's mark, unfortunately" Tanan said sheepishly. After some small talk, the elves continued on their way.

PEF3: A rep 4 neutral elf soldier. Passed the same so he buggered off with nothing gained or lost.

Moving stealthily through the woods, Tanan came upon a male elf. He did not recognize the stranger and he did not wish to reveal himself. He did not look like he posed a threat to the village though, so let him pass without questioning.

PEF4: A rep 5 troll. I gained the advantage and shot him right between the eyes, OD. Rolled a 5 on the shooting damage table. Looting the corpse I found a +1D6 magical sword. Sweeeeeeeeet!

Tanan came upon the troll again, or at least, it seemed to be the same one. This time he was munching on some sort of meat, he couldn't make out what it was. Without hesitation, Tanan knocked an arrow and let it fly. It passed through the tiny brain of the beast and it immediately slumped to the ground with a great crash.

The elf approached cautiously, bow at the ready. The troll smelled rank and he had to suppress the urge to empty the contents of his stomach. He turned his attention to a glint of metal. It was rare for trolls to use metallic weapons so he must have pillaged it from somewhere or off some unfortunate adventurer. He pulled the sword from the beast's loincloth and wiped it on his cloak.

"This could prove handy." He hefted the blade, it was well balanced. "Hmmm, I'd better head back to the village and report the troll to the elders" he said to himself quietly.

Melee is dangerous for shooters/casters but the sword will definitely help out...Assuming it's not cursed. We shall see in our next installment! I did not accomplish my goal of recruiting but there's always next time. Cashed in my 2 increasing D6 but didn't advance.
